The women’s organization in the Presbyterian Church in New London consists of the Presbyterian Women (PW) and the Circle of Love. The PW includes all the women of the church. It meets 5 times a year on the third Monday of the month in March, May, July, September, and December at 1:30 p.m. At each meeting there is a devotion and a lesson usually taken from the “Horizon” magazine. The “Horizon” magazine is a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) women’s publication. There is also a business meeting during which the women’s activities and missions are discussed.
The PW sponsors a fall bazaar each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The bazaar consists of cookies and candy sold by the pound, a general store where canned meat and homemade noodles are sold plus other interesting items. There is also a soup lunch served with homemade pies. The funds from this day are used to support needs in the church and also to support the group’s mission projects. These projects include local projects such as the Fellowship Cup, Abused Women Shelter, and the local Dollars for Scholars. They also contribute to Presbyterian mission projects such as the Birthday offering, the Thank offering, Presbyterian Disaster Fund and the Pirambu School in Brazil.
The PW also has a Praise Service once during the year to inform the church family of our mission projects. This service is planned and conducted by the PW during the regular church service. The funds contributed on this day are also used in their mission work.
The PW provides support to many church activities. They are in charge of the lunch provided at the annual garage sale in the spring and they provide lunches and refreshments for special activities and funerals. The PW is an important part of the work of the Presbyterian Church in New London.
